#iGospel – Privatized Cure

Whats something that’s come to you and you knew this is favor because you did not deserve it?

Two men were trapped at sea . The storm was so bad it broke their boat into 1000 pieces! They had not had enough time to anticipate a huge rock that seemed to appear front nowhere. By the most amazing miracle/ stroke of luck they survived because surprisingly they were not far from the shore. To ensure this kind of disaster does not ever befall other sailors ,they floated the idea to construct the first ever lighthouse: a tall stoic looking building with a light at the top and a siren so loud to warn sailors of rocks nearby and storms looming. The idea was well received and attracted with it other amenities and businesses.Over time people felt that maybe sailors who come might require a bath and refreshing etc Someone one else thought they might want to renew their equipment. Soon it was a thriving business centre with restaurants gyms , shops and recreations areas. Revenues from residents in-land soon overtook anything sailors from other towns were bringing.

One day a ship carrying 1200 passengers approached the little town. The shore line was inky black and looked completely peaceful. The ship crashed into the same rocks that had nearly killed two sailors years ago except this time everyone died. Experts later discovered that the siren and the light that warned sailors and ships of disaster had stopped functioning nearly 2 years earlier without anyone noticing  because business was booming. The lightless and siren less “lighthouse” stood imposingly facing the sea… But it had lost its vision.

The mission of Mavuno was born out of a deep love for the lost and the rejected by society. Turning ordinary people into fearless influencers … thats the focus.

This message is entitled “Privatised Cure” because of the empty seat next to you. If you look around and can see an empty seat then this message is relevant to you. Where is the person who should be next to you? Who are they? And why are they not here this Sunday? Statistics say that 74% of Kenyans do not go to church on Sunday.

This church is not about being cool, it’s about my children and yours who are currently in Greenhouse, and how they change the world after we hand them this button in 2035. Pause for a moment and think of your journey to Mavuno. How and who you were before you came. It took the hard work of men and women who prayed for you and introduced you to church and then to Jesus perhaps through Mizizi, Ndoa, Lea, Simama and Ombi. You are a link in a long chain.

Theologians say that  It takes 14 people or events to lead you to the loving Grace of Jesus. You rarely respond to Jesus the first time you hear about him. By the time you are responding something started sometime ago. Perhaps it was a song, a dream, a person or persons, a memory or mostly a direct invite. How do you know where you are at ?  You don’t! 1st or 14th? You may be the introducer someone else is the reaper- mostly preachers are reapers.

All 14 will get the same reward. The key is faithfulness. Don’t stop. Don’t be afraid and don’t be the weakest link. Do your job. It may be just asking someone to church. You need to give someone the same opportunity you were given. Freely you have received freely give.

Matthew 13:44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

Jesus was talking about Himself. He is the treasure of immeasurable value that men must seek find and then in JOY give up everything else we value in order to keep Him at the same time making him the centre of our lives  and the most valuable thing to us. He becomes, your Asset, your Best Friend, your Comforter, your Direction, your Energy, your God, your Father, your Healer, your Inspiration, your joy and your King.

Having Jesus in your life is favor. That Jesus you are trying to hide and feel ashamed of has favored you over millions of people. It’s not that you get saved. It’s that Jesus saves you. It’s not why didn’t you pick my mum or my dad, it’s a mystery! The issue is that he picked you, even you. Jesus is worth selling Everything for because He is everything. “He who loses his life for my sake will find his true purpose in life.”

Matthew 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

The most important word in this verse of treasure is the “In his Joy…” Sold everything. If people saw you happily selling everything you own, what would they be thinking has happened? You are in love, You won a green card, What????

Here are 3 things you can do to  UN-PRIVATIZE THE CURE you hold today. So that you are not a lighthouse that looks imposing but died years ago. 2 Corinthians 9:7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver … a person who works smiling.

Invite someone to church this week, the church will invite him/her to Christ. Befriend a non church goer. What do you think it cost Jesus to be friends with Mathew a tax collector? To touch people with leprosy and be on first names with a very famous prostitute?

Invest your TIME,TALENT AND  TREASURE in Gods Kingdom. You need to remember that giving to God helps us to understand that God is our Boss and that things are not our boss. That I own things and things don’t own me! There was a rich young boss who wanted to join Jesus’ band. Jesus asked him to go sell his things first then he can come. He refused. Rather the things couldn’t let him. Your boss( god) is the one who controls your decisions. God asks us to give TO HELP US be in control of our stuff and not vice versa. His idea is not to make you poor but actually rich. If possessions control you you are not rich- you are a slave.

Go out  and celebrate life! The chief Christian dilemma is whether it’s ok to laugh when there’s so much suffering in the world.
Last week we said that it’s not the Father to the two sons who said you cannot celebrate with your friends. You are always with me and all I have is yours! It’s ok for you to go and look for a goat and celebrate with your friends!

Have you ever thought of celebrating; the day you graduated from Mizizi?, or the day God healed your mum of cancer?, or the day you survived a road accident? or God gave you a job after you prayed and prayed?

God is big on celebration! He commands us to celebrate and remember milestones in our life. Celebration and remembrance builds our faith. Laughter and joy in Gods house is very attractive to people who don’t know God. Somebody said.” Today is the only day in your life- yesterday is gone and tomorrow may never come”

Bronnie Ware an Australian Nurse caring for patients in the last 12 weeks of their life wrote an article entitled THE FIVE STRONGEST WISHES OF THE DYING.Things people who are on their death regret the most. Here they are. Don’t let this be you!

I wish I had the courage to live a life true to myself not what others expected of me.
I wish I had the courage to express my feelings.
I wish I let myself be happier
I wish I stayed in touch with my friends.
I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.

Listen; Celebrate life. Don’t be a boring Christian. It Make us look bad. Admit that it’s not Christians who are boring,it’s you who is boring.
