Fuel For The Fire – Reverend Kwame Rubadiri

What one thing would you save from a fire if all your belongings (all your stuff) were burning in front of you? Why?

 Romans 12:1

The symbolism and imagery of a flame, fills us with wonder and hope. A single candle burning in the darkness, or the Olympic torch raised high to light a cauldron initiating the greatest spectacle of sport in human history…the narrative of how a single flame birthed in Greece is carried around the world (person to person, community to community) until it reaches the Opening Ceremony of the Games.

The prevailing symbol of worship and service to God in the Old Testament is the burnt SACRIFICE! Israel was always reminded of the payment for their deliverance everyday as they sacrificed an unblemished male lamb every morning and evening (Exodus 29:39-43). This was of course a symbol, a picture of the coming Christ, the sacrificial Lamb of God, the perfect sacrifice, the sinless Savior, the acceptable atonement for the sins of mankind. It was also a picture of what God expects to characterize the nature of our service in the Kingdom.

Christianity is not so much a matter of what we gain from God, but rather what we become and ultimately what we give to God for His glory – God is looking for a “living sacrifice”, a yielded vessel to do His will, an obedient servant whose will is conformed to the will of God in all things. Jesus invited the disciples (and us) to “take up the cross and deny ourselves” – everyday!!

This posture is fundamental to our Christian lives and indicates we understand the scripture that says we are bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:20) and we do not belong to ourselves we are the property of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. However we cannot begin to do business with God without sacrifice.

How did the sacrifice of the old testament work?

The first thing we learn about the “sacrifice” is that it was to be a whole gift (everyone had to bring the best year-old lamb they could find and they had to sacrifice it ALL to the Lord)…God wants all of you or none of you!

When you do respond to God’s call, He doesn’t want a half-hearted, half-baked commitment; He wants it all or none at all!! The children of Israel were required to place every part of the sacrifice, every limb and organ “everything” was placed on the altar to be consumed by the fire.

Secondly it was to be a willing gift (not given under pressure or pain), (Leviticus 1:3) a gift willingly released to the purpose of the sacrifice – God would not intervene without a sacrifice. God only works with the willing, never forcing us to conform to His will, always looking for a willing heart, and an obedient servant.

Each Gospel records the words of Jesus when He says “if any man desires to come after me let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me”, where are the willing workers God desires to send into the Harvest?, where are those who put a greater premium on the work of the Kingdom than on their own lives? – Show me such a man and I’ll show you a man who will never be without, who will always have more than enough for the journey and who will always be fruitful where he’s planted.

The third thing about the sacrifice is it was to be given in an attitude and atmosphere of worship It is an act of obedience and a step of faith and it must be taken in an atmosphere of worship! We cannot worship without sacrifice! This is not like any other business – this is the most important business there is, this is the King’s business, it’s about saving souls and representing the King of Kings in the earth. Any time we answer the call of God to serve – it is an act of obedience and an act of worship it is a sweet aroma to God, (Leviticus 1:9 the priest shall burn all on the altar as a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, a sweet aroma to the LORD.) Every sacrifice was to honor God and satisfy Him. The Bible says “put no confidence in the flesh” (Philippians 3:3), not in their flesh or your own flesh, get fresh manna and direction from God for yourself everyday.

In the new testament Paul’s letter to the Romans [Chapter 12:1] asks something dramatic of every believer: Surrender, sacrifice yourself and everything you are, as fuel for the fire of God. The light of God’s glory is spreading across the earth as the Gospel is preached, and like a bush fire the Kingdom is spreading to consume the evils and fears that have held societies captive for generations.

God is looking for workers to allow him to set their ‘yielded’ lives on fire and burn bright as beacons to show the way to the Savior. Jesus said in Matthew 5:16 “let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven”.

Today we present ourselves as more fuel for that holy fire that is spreading around the world.

Today we place the sacrifice of our lives on the altar of God’s service.

Today we light the match and release ourselves to burn bright for the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Fire will consume whatever gives it fuel; a fire will go out only when it has nothing left to consume (Proverbs 26:20) Fire will not only take your sacrifice, it will also test your sacrifice (1 Corinthians 3:13-15) Be the best and do your best in the work of ministry, present the highest standards everyday and expect the same high standard of service of the people you minister to as well. Remember that you can’t have a testimony without a test! (James 1:2 – 4)

Don’t just fan the flame…GET IN THE FLAME!

Be a bright light as you learn the lessons of testing and purification in the fires of life. The only way to purify Gold is through the fire of testing…

Fire will not let you look good on the outside, it will not let you look pretty, it will purify your sacrifice (Malachi 3:2-3)

Don’t just fan the flame…GET IN THE FLAME!

The fire of God burns up and purifies the stuff that’s inside us too, our motives, our fears, our unpleasant attitudes; the heat of the fire will show what’s really inside and burn it all up so that a pure vessel remains. God is setting things up so you may burn brighter, and burn longer, so that you may burn clean and not be consumed. Stay in the fire – it’s all for your good, it may be too hot sometimes but stay in the fire He’s working in you a greater glory…

Don’t just fan the flame…STAY IN THE FLAME!

So let me ask you…

Are you ready to offer yourselves as fuel for the fire?

Are you ready to light up a dark world and present the only hope they have?

Are you ready to be a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God?

Are you ready to be sent out to the nations?

Then we are ready to light the match and commend you as a whole, a willing and a worshiping sacrifice to the work of the Lord.

Burn Bright,

Burn Long,

Burn as a sweet aroma to the Lord…

Don’t just fan the flame …BECOME THE FLAME that lights up your family, lights up your community, that fearlessly lights up society!

Let me tell you why this sermon was straight from Heaven.

    1. My newly birthed LG (Aftershock), has had a fiery last week (Mizizi week 10). One maiden has to undergo surgery, one had facial/bells palsy, several had serious financial bumps, loss of loved ones, a mugging, theft and we had several knights and maidens on the verge of just quitting. All in one week. I mean, I was there asking myself on Saturday, what is happening? Are we not praying enough? Is God even listening? Are we praying right? Didn’t Prashan’s sermon leave us so desperate for God? Maybe we did not get desperate enough.

    2. My best friend, who was also present at the service despite the temptation not to come, has also been burning.

Here is what I heard: Stay in the fire, go through it, be patient, courage through endurance, obedience and willingness. For whatever this fire is burning and getting rid of,well, let it be. I definitely do not want to come out half baked. No pain is wasted. Therefore, I will not ask for God to stop the fire, I will ask for patience for my LG family and I.

God bless you Pst. M and Rev. Kwame. I am sure it is through your fires that God used you at such an appointed time as this.

    Thank you.

Rev Rubadiri you nailed it on the head. I loved your message a lot. I pray that the fire ignited in the church this season will keep on burning until the resurrected saviour comes for his bride the church to eternity.

  5. I missed the service, thank God for Youtube!! So I was thinking of what i would go into the fire to save…my documents (My ATM is always in my pocket) But as you progressed..I kinda thought, “they are not that good anyway so heck I’d let them burn”
I am currently in a fire, I feel it burning slow and each day the intensity rises. I am about to be Daddy, and as a man, am not sure there’s anything harder, nothing I’ve faced so far anyway. its been tough so far, trying to keep it all together, but many a times I feel like am grasping at straws.
Guess your right Rev. this will not leave me looking pretty, but it just might mean everything by me staying in the fire.

And oh yea..HILL CITY can count on hii “kuni”

  6. Thank you Kwame! Indeed light does shines the brightest when its darkest i.e our father is showcasing us. As the Bible says all temptation is common to man and He knew each of us even before time begun so all i need to do is keep asking Him to reveal how to deal.

Something that constantly encourages me & connected for me is the name Hill City – it reminds me of a city with foundation whose maker is God! Hebrews 11 & Rev 21. May this be prophecy fulfilled for we sons of Abraham.

  7. Thanks for the candid sharing Rev. Kwame. It wasjust the encouragement I needed. I have been going through the fire at work, in my family and relationship and was wondering how to get out. After your sermon, I choose to stay and let God use and refine me through the experiences. May my life testify to the truth of Isaiah 41:20 – “That they may see and know, And consider and understand together, That the hand of the Lord has done this, And the Holy One of Israel has created it.”

Thank you for this sermon Rev. Kwame.

It couldn’t have come at a better time. My prayer partner in LG prayed for me last meeting and prophesied that the issues I have been going through in life would be used by God to teach others in future. However desperate I may be now, I should keep the fire burning, wait to be solidified and the real me will bring more people to His kingdom.

Thank you Rev. Kwame… thanks to your great-grandfather… and thank you God.

    Amen.

  9. I have never blogged before and this is my first time.

I was not able to attend church on Sunday as I was in Tanzania to see my brother. I decided that I would watch it today after work. I have been going through a lot at work, facing possible retrenchment…at 31, my business never seems to kickstart and everyone around me seems to be more successful than me at a faster rate. I was not sure whether to complain or “pretend” to still give Glory. The funny thing is, this was not the first time I was going through this, but the difference is; this time I will not wish the pain away but will learn to accept it, go through it and most importantly LEARN from it.

Someone once said to me….perseverance builds character…I would like to change it to…understanding perseverence, builds character or better yet……Sacrifice builds character.

Last night I dreamt several dreams but one in particular I cannot forget. We were at a family function and all of a sudden there was chaos, fire, people running and fighting. I can’t remember where my siblings ran to, but my father held my hand, ran with me through the chaos, hid me from the bad people and took me to a safe hut or house. All along I was crying and scared but kept saying we will be fine. I believe this is somehow connected to what I was to listen to today.

Thank you so much for this sermon and Glory be to God!

  10. So I was reading through some of the comments here and some of the things I and people close to me have gone or are going through and the thought of “CHARACTER” came to mind. According to Wikipedia..I know, not the best reference (But my campus years are not that far away), Character can be defined as ‘the quality of a person acting in a story and reacting to its situations’
Like Rev Kwame was saying, it is never easy…giving up makes a lot of sense. I don’t know about y’all but I want a beautiful story, not one filled with sugar, spice and everything nice 🙂 ….but one that tells of the battles I’ve fought (God), the enemy lines I’ve had to cross, and the victory I so modestly display….(Clearly am getting distracted…) But y’all know what I mean…..stay in the fire..your quality will be A CLASS!!!

  11. This could not have come at a better time in my life. Just watched this today on you tube and i must say that Mavuno Church has been such a blessing to me. I am a single mum, who has not been able to secure any meaningful employment for the past 3 years. Currently jobless for the past 4 months. This despite the fact that i have a first and masters degree with very good scores.

It’s been quite a journey of pain and brokenness. Last weekend i felt that i had had enough of waiting on God and did some things that i’m sure were not part of God’s will.

I thought to myself why wait on this God who doesn’t even seem to hear me out? So many job applications yet no single response? Not even a regret? I couldn’t understand this but listening to Rev. Rubadiri i am convinced that God has good things for me. He’s just preparing me for it.

I hope that by the end of the month i will have a testimony to share on this blog. I hope to tap into pastor Rubadiri’s prophesy. I still have to learn to totally trust in God through the pain and disappointments and just surrender everything to Him. Thanks Pr Rubadiri and Mavuno church.
